5 Ways to Stay Healthy This Memorial Day Weekend

Being a weekend often characterized by eating, drinking and spending time outdoors, follow these five easy tips to make sure your body stays healthy and happy this Memorial Day.

  1. Make H2O Your New Best Friend

No matter what you’re doing, water is a must. Temperatures are rising, and especially if you are drinking or ingesting fried, salty or sugary foods, your body will be craving water. Make sure to have a glass with each drink and meal.

  1. Love Your Skin

Even though it seems as if Austin hasn’t seen sunshine in ages, it is still extremely important to protect your skin as up to 80% of the sun’s UV rays can pass through cloud cover, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. Make sure to slap on some sunscreen this weekend, and don’t forget to reapply!

  1. Mix Up Your Mixers

Try and avoid using sugary beverages as mixers for your drinks this weekend. The sugar will dehydrate you, as well as add on excessive amounts of carbs and calories. Look to include some healthier drink options as mixers, such as kombucha, coconut water or even some of Juice Society’s cold-pressed juice!

  1. Stay Active

While you don’t necessarily need to run miles a day this weekend, try and keep active where you can. Take the family out for a walk or hike, or go for a swim. Keep yourself moving and your blood flowing- your body will appreciate it!

  1. Moderation is Key

Staying healthy this Memorial Day weekend doesn’t mean starving yourself- if you see a treat on the dessert table that you want to eat, eat it! Just remember the “M” word: moderation. Have some dessert and grab food off the grill, but also remember to stack your plate with fruits and veggies as well. The more color on your plate, the better!
