Fueling Your Body Post Workout
Most people make sure to eat a healthy, energizing meal before working to ensure a strong workout and maximum performance throughout. But are you eating a post-workout meal to aid in body recovery?
Post-workout meals are important to help with overall recovery of your body but more specifically to reduce muscle soreness and fatigue, reduce muscle protein breakdown caused by exercise, increase muscle protein synthesis, and reduce cortisol levels.
At Juice Society, we’re all about fueling our bodies. Check out some of our favorite post workout snacks and their benefits!
Kokonut Yogurt Parfait
Yogurt made with coconut milk is a great alternative to traditional yogurt containing dairy, especially for those that are lactose intolerant. Like traditional yogurt, coconut yogurt works as a probiotic and does wonders for gut health. Coconut is also an antioxidant which helps the body fight against free radicals and leaves your skin looking healthy and youthful.
Mixed nuts & seeds
Nuts and seeds contain fiber and healthy fats. The fiber from the nuts and seeds helps slow down digestion making the sugar you consume enter your bloodstream more slowly, leading to a gradual rise in blood sugar and leaving you feeling energized after eating.
Pineapple Turmeric Smoothie
This recipe not only contains bananas that are high in potassium but also avocados which have even more potassium than bananas! Potassium is needed for our muscles to perform at their best, especially after a hard workout. Pineapple helps reduce inflammation in the body and turmeric increases muscle repair and reduce swelling in muscles and joints.
1/2 an avocado
1 cup pineapple (fresh or frozen)
1/2 medium banana
1/2 tsp ground turmeric
1 cup coconut water (I love Honest Harvest Coconut Water)
Apple Slices with Almond Butter & Cinnamon
People might not always find the skin of an apple to be the tastiest part of the fruit but it packs a lot of fiber which is good for keeping you feeling full. Almond butter is high in monosaturated fats which help decrease levels of cholesterol and decrease the risk of heart ailments. Cinnamon also helps lower levels of cholesterol and helps with inflammation.
